R Primo Bollettino dei Ghiacciai Estinti2023-6

Primo Bollettino dei ghiacciai estinti examines the changing condition of Dolomite glaciers — particularly the Marmolada — in light of climate change and broader socio-political dynamics. Challenging traditional views of glaciers as static and permanent elements of the Alpine landscape, the research proposes understanding them as living, dynamic matter. The predicted extinction of the Marmolada glacier marks not only an ecological transformation but also a cultural crisis, prompting new questions about how we define the life, death, and evolution of environments.

Drawing inspiration from historical Bollettini dell’Alpinista, the project adopts the format of an imagined interdisciplinary bulletin, combining interviews with scientists, journalists, designers, and artists, alongside archival research and curated bibliographies. Through this approach, the work develops new interpretative tools and narratives to better perceive and engage with endangered ice landscapes, encouraging alternative ways of relating to fragile alpine ecologies.
